I just finished reading Stephen King’s new zombie tribute book Cell. I read the book in two days, which isn’t saying anything about its page count so much as my inability to put the book down.
A few months back Entertinment Weekly actually had the first few pages of the book in their magazine. I tried to read it but for some reason I just couldn’t get into it, probably because of the illustrations they included to go with the narrative of the story. Based on how much I really enjoyed the book I’m convinced now more then ever I won’t pay any mind to the in-magazine type previews that most magazines can run.
I really enjoyed this story. The jury in my head is still out on whether over all it was a good story or not, but it was a good solid read that started and didn’t quit. It never bogged me down with the histories of the characters, which really worked to help connect me WITH the story, placing me in the same exact mind set as the people we follow in the story. I also found the pace and the story very cinematic while I was reading it. Considering the book has a dedication to George Romero I suppose this shouldn’t come as a shock. I’m also pleased that Eli Roth is already attached to the film version of this book. Gives me hope for something more watchable and less Dream Catcher.
